Re: elections in the illegally occupied territories

 https://www.cyprus-forum.com/cyprus47211-170.html#p921686

.

There is only one thing that will drive Turkey from our shores; that is unity.

...if as Cypriots, Cypriots stand for what they want, Turkey will have everything it needs to withdraw from our political affairs.

Max, ask yourself, why the coup could not sustain itself; Greek Cypriots are not "Greek".

...lucky for us that the Junta did not "win". (I do not want to be "Greek"; i am Greek)

Indeed, Turkish Cypriots are hostages to Turkey, (like we could have been). Just like the "Greeks" whose intention was no different, ignoring the Cypriots on whose island they're fighting this proxy war, our "community" would have had the same loss. It was and is Cypriots who are paying the price for this mythic reality, torn unnaturally apart to this day.

...for a Cypriot, Enosis has a strange meaning, given the result. Enosis needs a Cypriot meaning, relevant to Cypriots. And that is done by our demonstration of unity, joining under the one flag that is rightfully ours, and on our beaches.

"your community", is not your country Max; "Greekness" has nothing to be proud of really, just remember the financial meltdown. Like "Turkishness" it is the bane to a Cypriot's existence, whether Turkish or Greek.

As a "Greek" who cannot see passed the Nationalism in that, Erdogan wins. The question is, do you want to be defined by such an (or any other) interlocutor?

...i heartily suggest you take a good look at what you are saying, lest you get what you've been asking for as well.

Cyprus elections: corruption displaces Cyprob

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2022/05/29/cyprus-elections-corruption-displaces-cyprob/

.

...i hope that both AKEL and Disy can represent themselves as Cypriot Parties; "Left" and "Right" their divide when speaking to the People, (despite the "Greeks" and "Turks" living among them), who are Cypriot above all.

...rather than "power", which in the case of the Presidency of Cyprus is (now) won by winning what is in affect the Greek Constituency, a Leader seeking change cannot lose sight of who they represent, through government, but as a State. Such a Leadership accordingly, having moved the People, Turkish and Greek Cypriot alike as a Cypriot in their campaign, would it seems to me have a better chance at fulfilling the promises they made toward Cypriots successfully, winning more than an election but more importantly their support.

Cypriots need change. Cypriots are not "Greeks" or "Turks" as it can be clearly seen over decades, even unnaturally divided, because these candidates have never won overwhelmingly in an election.

Of the statesman Cypriots have to choose from in this election, there are a few. Of the Parties, if they wish to distinguish themselves as Parties, they will have to rethink their purpose, and who they serve, to remain relevant to Cypriots, now that Cypriots need representation, as Cypriots, more than ever.

Occupied Cyprus: How Turkey has destroyed Christian cultural heritage

 https://www.christianpost.com/voices/occupied-cyprus-how-turkey-has-destroyed-christian-culture.html

.

...enjoyed reading this article. It lays out a story of suffering and injustice anyone must suffer faced with the Intolerance of those who place their own dogmas above the notion that we are all as Humans no different in our needs. "Turkishness" like "Greekness" have left the other half, Cypriots, with their Identity usurped, their country torn in two and silenced. This is the Problem. Treated only as Persons, as Individuals they cannot be Free. ...today, Ukrainians are quickly burying their dead where they lie so that the dogs which roam the streets will not take them. Civilians (and soldiers) wear ribbons on their backs to reduce the risk of being shot at by some; this the result of Ukrainians suffering the same fate now defined by the "Ukrainian" and "Russian" extremes. Men like Mr. Erdogan, and Mr. Putin must know this, and in the Ukraine, they may end the Problem peacefully too. One hopes a man like Mr. Zelenskiy can see further than them, for his own State, and for the People of so many countries divided the same way.

Turkish Cypriots angered by new Turkish protocol

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2022/05/24/turkish-cypriots-angered-by-new-turkish-protocol/

.

I never forget the other half as i like to call them, the Cypriots Greek and Turkish who have remained silent for the most part (except at the polls as voters) confronted by the "Greekness" or the "Turkishness" of those who place their dogmas above the Universal Principles, and values, which Cypriots will not betray.

If, we cannot sit on our beaches together in peace and sharing souvla, what are we, but lesser Human beings.

...do not despair, i say to the Turkish Cypriot, my brethren as a Greek and Cypriot too, you are the vanguard, against the "Cypriot Turk" and the biggest threat, their "Turkishness" that is no better than the "Greekness" that fell before them, in Cyprus. Turkey may be changed by Cyprus, (if you think about it,) and not the other way around.

If, you dare to fly the Flag, the flag that is rightfully yours as Cypriots, the Flag of Cyprus, do not doubt that we are few, those of us Cypriot will follow; only if 'we' remain unnaturally torn apart are we not many, against "Them".

Despite the fact that it is illegal to insult Mr. Tatar i have no doubt that this summer will be most difficult for him.

I suspect elections will occur, sooner than expected.

Russia says no change to its stance on Cyprus

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2022/05/18/russia-says-no-change-to-its-stance-on-cyprus/

.

...well, i am hopeful, as a Cypriot i can't wait to see Cypriots having representation from a State which describes them as Individuals, not "Greeks" or "Turks".

Isn't that the Problem as it's evolving in the Ukraine? Isn't that the way Turkey is dividing itself with "Turkishness", in Turkey today? How does Putin save his own Legacy; "Russianness" (what with his isolation) showing itself to produce no different results.

Everyone knows the Problem, (what its done for/to them) especially these three men. If it were not for the fight over power (read: Power), Cyprus like Russia, Turkey, and the Ukraine as BBFs would exist peacefully today because the People come first in such a State, that there are Universal Principles that go beyond any "National" cause, and that as Persons given this capacity at self-representation they may also demonstrate there commitment to such notions in Good Faith and Goodwill, having in their Agenda as a Majority provision for the Minorities living among them.

...without a solution to the Problem, their problems' will fester; their failure will leave them in infamy.

Cyprus and Israel: Lessons from the pursuit of lasting peace in the Eastern Mediterranean

 https://hir.harvard.edu/cyprus-and-israel-lessons-for-lasting-peace-in-the-eastern-mediterranean/

.

Divided as they are, the People of Israel and the People of Cyprus, most certainly there will be no solution. As in the Ukraine, watching it in the process of being torn up, in this problem too, the Problem is exposed to be the same for all of them.

Indeed as Persons they differ and their extremes see the solution through brutal force toward each other.
(...how convenient for "Them", the other half their hapless victims mostly unarmed and civilians.)

Where is the Humanity beyond that? Where is the Peoples' representation as Individuals; without further distinctions or discrimination, equals in defending the values and Universal Principles that make it so?

...hijacked, the Agenda.

Must Cypriots be "Greek"? Must Turcophones be "Turkish"? Must Israelis be Jewish? And Russians, not "Russians", in the Ukraine (and in Russia), don't they exist?

...i ask the readers to recall that the USA is a BBF (Bizonal Bicommunal Federation); as a Modern concept, (just predating the French Revolution) it was the very first as a matter of fact. That within a State (where there exists a Rule of Law and Good Government), Individuals are Free to express their thoughts without fear, to travel and to associate accordingly. And, having constituencies (at another level of government), this Liberty, as Persons, allows for such distinct identities to thrive, to share in Goodwill and in Good Faith, as Majorities recognising and respecting the Minorities that live among them by providing in their Agenda these special needs as well.

So it is that intentions count.

In Cyprus, i am hoping it is the beaches Cypriots will take to make souvla together at their own "picnics" this summer; that would make a most hopeful change and a fine example, difficult to ignore. I suggest in Israel the same, demonstrations of Israelis, Arabs and Jews wanting change, because it will expose those against such a notion, "Jews" and "Arabs" (as they define themselves unable of such tolerance). In either case, it will become that much more difficult for "Them" to dismiss (in effect about half the voting population) as insignificant and too few to matter, with the People seen to be united; that too is a great step forward.

...yes, i am hopeful (still) having Faith in the notion of 'Us', as those not "Them".

And in the Ukraine at this moment three men of great talent will decide their own fate, as Heroes, by ending the(ir) Problem(s) that they all know too well, (with a solution, by all of us defined as "perfect"; where an Individual is most clearly defined and that as Persons they (these Citizens) are given the capacity to demonstrate this respect and trust toward each other accordingly: perfect because all countries may emulate its values, held in such esteem), or, as failures living with its infamy, possibly (one) facing War Crimes as a consequence.

(n.b. Erdogan too, now faces the divisiveness of "Turkishness", at home beyond Cyprus tearing at the very fabric of his own State; in his own Constitutional reform, (and with an end to the Problem recognising Cypriots as well) on time for Turkey's Centennial in two years: will a BBF do just fine?). (And of Putin, having sacked Russia's Democracy, (to a lesser BBF, and one far more militaristic); is this "Russianness" better, if not what will he change it to, again?)

Or, is it Zelinskiy who will cave around such men, under so much pressure to choose reaching no further than "Ukrainians" where "being" Ukrainian is far more complex? (...the answer to this question, if "They" remain unchanged i fear most of all.)

Change (as in intentions) would seem imminent, everywhere, what with the existential questions we face as a race called Human, what with real enemies like Hunger and Disease to fight; we should not be fighting each other (lest we Forget): Ignorance perhaps is the greatest enemy of all.

...the Problem is the problem (or is it the other way around?); in Cyprus, in Israel, (in Turkey), and now soon to be it seems in the Ukraine; our world missing the point as yet. As Martin Luther King said, beyond desegregation is integration, and as Rev. Tutu said, "This" must stop; two men who know the Problem well, it is something to think about all around. (dare i say and in the USA "Americans" abound).

 https://www.cyprus-forum.com/cyprus47934.html#p921117

.

...yet, now he can act; knowing what he does, and who he knows, the inner workings of power, he may end his silence: seeing things quite differently.

I am hopeful though much too exhausted of Human hypocrisy and fear to get excited; but i'll be watching.

...never mind the nay-sayers, Lordo. Their's is the easy and self-fulfilling prediction that is in affect the Problem.

With AKEL, (with their History) it is possible, wounded as they are from the world's harsh reality, (Russia the bad guy on so many levels, to them directly,) they may see their mission far more clearly; to serve working people, to defend the Universal Principles that define us all as one race called Human, to provide Good Government transparent and free of corruption: as Cypriots united in this cause. What was the purpose of electing a Turkish MEP, if it is not to present a candidate for President that speaks to and for all Cypriots? Let's not forget that AKEL has cultured a relationship with other left leaning Parties in the occupied territories; Mr Tufan comes to mind.

A candidate finding support north and south of the Green Line wins.

(no "Greek" candidate and no "Turkish" candidate can compete against that number/tactic, apart as they are; Cypriots have voted as Cypriots since 1960 despite their Leaderships' intentions, what has changed is strategy)

...think about it, in the middle of the Ukrainian War, a Communist Party may win in Cyprus, uniting Cypriots by exposing the "Greeks" and "Turks" for what they are; is that so hard to imagine?

...my Uncle had a hole in his hand where the bullet passed through, his son, his Uncle, his Uncle's son, my cousin were all made to disappear. What does it matter if they are Greek, or Turkish, they were murdered for "being" Cypriot.

Let's not forget Ayz, thinking about who died and who did the killing, that the "Greeks" and the "Turks" are no different in that regard (rarely killing each other, so to speak).

Re: Ukrainian Issue

 https://www.cyprus-forum.com/cyprus47975-4460.html#p920579

.

...hard for me to imagine after decades that we are witnessing nothing new. The manipulation of our fear that is a favorite for Leaders left and right, against "us", it seems; to divide us.

As a child i had the good fortune to live in a village where there were values we all respected and a routine which made sense; a "mixed" village, "they" said: ("our" way ignored).

I knew of the divisions of "Greeks" and Greeks, i knew of the division of "Greeks" and "Turks", and i knew of the unity (and harmony) between us, Turkish and Greek as Cypriots.

...in Cyprus (and in the Ukraine,) few of us can say that we are untouched by ''Them''. And yet, will we blame ourselves if we remain silent, if instead we choose ''their'' narrative as the Truth we live by (today, knowing what we know)?

The Problem is our problem if we continue to resist the changes we need to make within ourselves, having better intentions (than "Them").

...it is still more possible here than anywhere else; a definition for enosis that is not "Greek" (or "Russian"), not "Turkish" (or "Ukrainian") either, but something bigger as a whole, something worth far more, like Cyprus "being" for Cypriots (and the Ukraine "being" for Ukrainians).

We, those of us Cypriot, are, what Ukrainians will be when this war is over and they too have been torn apart. What then, when a "Ukrainian" or/and a "Russian" wins?

Cypriots must step up now to have an effect on the eventual result, here and in the Ukraine: an end to the Problem, or not.

Mr. Erdogan has begged for it; why else "picnics" on our beaches? Who, where, are the People to say differently? Mr. Erdogan needs us now if he is to make History successfully negotiating a settlement which can be emulated, no less.

...such a demonstration, Cypriots making souvla for each other, in times like these would be hopeful don't you think?

Russia is also a country made up of many Peoples and Cultures.

...Putin took to creating from this Federation, (a BBF), a Unitary State.

The result is that his expansionist plans today are in conflict with those who try to free themselves from its corruption more successfully, if you will (eg Chechens, Georgians).

...his "Cyprus Solution" in the Ukraine has not resulted with its Identity usurped, it is not so easy to make of Ukrainians, "Ukrainians" this time; nor is it clear that Russians want to be "Russians".

We are all looking for a (read: the) Solution to the Problem, Turkey most of all, the Ukraine and Cyprus, Russia too, would benefit from it as a result.

...indeed, it is becoming more likely that the Problem ends when these men shake hands, making History. There is little choice if they are to live Famous, rather than in infamy.

Time for a big decision on Cyprus

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2022/04/17/time-for-a-big-decision-on-cyprus/

.

Erdogan begs us to take back our beaches, and with everything else, what can he do to awaken the spirit of enosis in us: finally giving it a Cypriot meaning; Cypriot people, in crowds against his notion having their own.

Who says Cypriots need to be defined as though they don't exist?

...ask yourself who died, in '63 and '74, whose land was stolen, to make "this"; those not "Them" murdered or disappeared for the most part, simple people who held (read: hold) Universal Principles as a higher ideal.

...and what is the big lie "They" like to repeat over and over again, our insignificance among them as too few; let us take the time to remember that decades have passed, even as a People unnaturally divided, "Their" candidates "Greek" and "Turkish", in elections, cannot win an overwhelming majority. We are many.

Who are the cowards but us if we the People do not expose "Greekness" and "Turkishness" in Cyprus for what they are, both failed dogmas leaving Cypriots torn, indebted, and, with their identity usurped: these are the facts.

...ask yourself, who treats the Flag of Cyprus as a rag?

A change would be nice indeed, the Flag of Cyprus seen everywhere, from our windows and our cars, across the island, and under its shade making souvla; who would be against such a notion, certainly not Cypriots.

...if you cannot ''be'' Cypriot, it is from fear (read: Ignorance), and you must overcome that fear deep inside you.

If Turkey recognises Cyprus all energy deals on table

 https://www.financialmirror.com/2022/04/15/if-turkey-recognises-cyprus-all-energy-deals-on-table/

.

...most encouraging.

What with the Problem now in the Ukraine, a solution may be found there.

I can imagine a BBF, for Ukainians, that Mr. Erdogan may emulate in his own Constitutional reforms, and that Cypriots may accept for themselves as well. Indeed Ukrainians will be Free in such a State, where as Individuals they are equal without further discrimination or distinction, undivided as a People, not "Ukrainians" and "Russians", while as Persons, at another level of government, they may nurture their distinct identities in Goodwill, as Majorities, by providing in Goodfaith for the Minorities that live among them their special needs in such an Agenda accordingly.

...for a country torn apart, a country tearing apart, and a country being torn apart; the gas, in all of this, may force these players to look at their intentions differently, in effect to get what they want.

...what is a BBF? Canada comes to mind, (the EU, although it is only at its advent,) and so too the USA which was the very first; it is something to think about...

Let's not forget that it was Mr. Erdogan who linked Cyprus' gas to the Problem, (no gas without a solution), and let's also remember Mr. Putin's ire in the Ukraine started with gas (long before the Crimea). Indeed, gas, the issue of power over it, in the Ukraine can also be linked to their Problem as well.

What with Turkey's Centennial in two years, Peace at Home, is a welcome notion in Turkey, too. Such Constitutional reform, Turkey a State, a BBF, which within it contains Constituencies so that as Persons, these Citizens may demonstrate through their self-representation the same commitment toward Universal Principles, bodes well for Mr. Erdogan's legacy.

The problem with the Problem is that it is still expanding and it is not limited to Cyprus alone.

...such as it is, a solution to the Problem is what is needed; this gas flowing freely in a reasoned manner.

...a big disappointment to say the least.

Not having recognised the Problem makes me wonder if he really is a Citizen of the World, or just another sell-out because in fact he is "Ukrainian".

...good on Cyprus, good on Greece, canaries in a coal mine so to speak; at the Cradle of Civilization and the Cradle of Democracy, sounds of alarm.

Mr. Zelenskiy does himself or Ukrainian people as a People, no favours with speeches like these.

If he is fighting "Russians" and not Russians, if he is fighting against Putin and his regime, if it is Democracy against the forces like "Them", if it is a fight to keep the Ukraine whole, this war's reason, as a man or as President, he should not be encouraging toward "Ukrainians", who in affect are no different, and in dogma the same.

...he ignores History making History at his own peril.

Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks: Turkey as the Peacemaker

 https://politicstoday.org/russia-ukraine-peace-talks-turkey/

.

...it is hard for me to wrap my head around it, Erdogan the peace maker, what with Cyprus torn in two, for "Turkishness", or against "Greeks" you might say, but while Cypriots Greek and Turkish are left unheard despite the fact that in elections they always represent never less than half the ballots, either side of the Green Line now decades.

If not in Cyprus, let us hope the Problem is solved in the Ukraine; a BBF that resolves the same issues in a manner where there is representation for people as a People, Individuals who are willing to defend Principles and values that are Universal, where there is no further need for distinctions and discrimination as equals, a State based on a Rule of Law. And as well, self-representation as Persons.

...what of Ukrainian Constituencies, of the persons living 'there' who as majorities seek to make their own efforts toward their own distinct identities?

What of Majorities demonstrating their respect and trust toward the Minorities living among them by providing in their Agenda for these needs as well? Wouldn't such a reciprocal nature of Goodwill, and Good Faith, among these states promote, the cohesiveness of their State? I'll add that at such a level of Government, the service taxpayers get is closer to their own pockets and their daily needs; this too is something to think about.

Two levels of government (a BBF) effectively secures for Citizens both their Liberty and Freedom.

...indeed, the Problem solved, a BBF that Mr. Erdogan can emulate in his own reform of Turkey's Constitution would be a welcome Legacy for Turkey's Centennial in two years. A State and Turkish Constituencies should not be hard to understand; the People, people: as Individuals, as Persons, their representation as such.

...indeed, many countries stand to benefit with the Problem solved.

Ukrainian President Zelenskiy to address the Cyprus parliament

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2022/04/04/ukrainian-president-zelenskiy-to-address-the-cyprus-parliament/

.

...i remember. This is Putin's war, not Russia's.

As a Cypriot, i would like to say to Mr. Zelenskiy that it is not easy for me to see what the Ukrainian People must be suffering, because of a man like him. My hope is that you may have the strength to remain a loving person, a better man, despite the failings of those around you who you must also be depending on.

I would beg you to remember that the Problem which, we, suffer from for so long is at your doorstep if you ignore the difference between Ukrainians and "Ukrainians", that there exists in this subtle difference "Russians" and Russians, too. Your people are like us, they are neither one of "Them": as Persons quite distinct in their identities, but as Individuals quite prepared to defend the Universal Principles which as Humans we value most.

I would beg you to remember, that as the President of Ukraine you are the representative of all Ukrainians, not just "Ukrainians", that your (our) enemy are "Russians" not Russians. I would suggest that if the Ukraine is broken in parts, it may be a step forward for all the world to see what a BBF truly means; if at one level of Government, Ukrainian Constituencies which as Majorities demonstrated the Goodwill they have in Goodfaith toward their Minorities, and at another the people's representation as a People united existing as well where as Individuals they are equals without the further need for any further distinction or discrimination: what is Liberty, and Freedom?

...isn't the US, the world's first BBF, i ask; a rhetorical question because it is. And despite the failure in Cyprus where Cypriots live unheard among the two divided "sides", it is still a good (the best) idea to live a life based on values, and a Rule of Law that can be respected by everyone, while everyone of us may choose, who, we will be.

"Turkishness" and "Greekness" must be exposed for Cypriots to have Peace, and Sovereignty over their lives.

The Problem is your problem now, their lies and "their" mythic realities. What with the suffering tearing the fabric of all Ukraine and its people today, what with the people like "Them'' having their day fulfilling themselves with Hate, who can envy your position, Mr. Zelenskiy, i can only wish you well, and, good luck.

It begins, Cypriots as Cypriots no longer silen(t)ced, speak for themselves.

...as the weather grows warmer and the COVID restrictions cease, i am expecting more demonstrations of the same nature, Cypriots under the only flag rightfully theirs, and as a People, for the Freedom, despite their dysfunctional government(s), it represents. Indeed there is a need for Cypriot Constituencies, the need for Liberty too, because we are Persons with distinct identities as such, not just Individuals. (At such a level of governance, i ask, why not a Greek Constituency like a Turkish Constituency, Cypriots demonstrating their respect as Majorities toward the Minorities living among them, why not other Constituencies if it is the Cypriot ethnos, and our welcoming nature(s), we wish to thrive?)

While a BBF is not hard for Cypriots to understand, those "Greek" and "Turkish" resist while holding the Agenda.

President Tatar: Israeli natural gas could pass through TRNC

 https://www.cyprus-forum.com/cyprus46325-460.html#p916585

.

Indeed, if the gas is piped from Cyprus to Turkey it will be piped through a Constituency that is Turkish.

...it is up to Mr. Tatar frankly, if he is willing to recognise the half of his own electorate that are Cypriot, if he recognises the Cypriots, half of which are not "Greeks" who want the same representation, as Individuals, as Cypriots, and as equals without the need for further distinction and/or discrimination, because as Persons, in any part of Cyprus, minorities are treated with respect in any Cypriot Constituency by its majority. Such a way brings hope to all of us, in Cyprus, the rest of the world, in Turkey torn among its People too, and now in the Ukraine. Such is the way of the BBF.

...one hopes that Mr. Tatar dares to see a bigger picture. It is a lasting Legacy, not folly, for any leader who commits themselves to such audacity, its true the risks for him, are enormous; yet it may be time, the world needs it, at the root of the Problem, (his) Cyprus needs it, Cyprus makes the best example.

Our View: Cyprus must reconsider its position on sending gas through Turkey

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2022/03/12/our-view-cyprus-must-reconsider-its-position-on-sending-gas-through-turkey/

.

...it is a hopeful sign, if Mr. Erdogan can come to the same table with his neighbours at the East Med. Gas Forum, much work has been done already to work collectively toward the goals they share in selling gas, drilling and exploring for it safely and rationally, as well as improving their security through trust and respect in this open dialog.

...indeed, by recognising Cyprus, and Cypriots, Mr Erdogan can have all the gas he wants. He will get a lot more than that if he allows Cypriots to "be" Cypriots, in a BBF, where in Turkey he may emulate this form of governing, with Turkish Constituencies (if there were at another level of Government, Cypriot Constituencies) in his own Reform of Turkey's Constitution.

Cyprus is the center to a lot of problems linked to the Problem.

'' "Greek Cyprus" as Mr. Tatar describes it is as yet a dream, because, in Cyprus, there is a Republic, dysfunctional perhaps, which represents all its Citizens, as Individuals, as Cypriots, and a Turkish Constituency, promoting its distinct identity, representing its electorate as Persons, (which has no equal given that there is no Greek Constituency, per se), and as Turkish speaking.

Cypriots exist, they are never less than half of Mr. Tatar's constituents, and it is no different outside of his constituency. So it should be, i think, despite the misery "Greeks" and "Turks" have foisted on these people, Cypriots are Cypriots after decades, this much does not change.

...in the Ukraine today, Russians fight "Russians", and it's not hard to understand why, "being" Ukrainians.

It is something i imagine Mr Tatar understands is natural, for Cypriots too.

...where is the Greek Constituency, Mr Tatar should ask, for the Constitutional reforms Cypriots need, for a BBF to fructify, (e.g. Canada or the USA), if it is Freedom, and Liberty, he is looking for.''

Mustie, If Turkey had taken all of Cyprus, don't you think the world's reaction would have been no different to today?

...childish, i'm sorry to say, your question. The war in Cyprus continues despite its slow pace, hurting Cyprus' Cypriots as it has for decades. Erdogan has not made the mistake that Putin has, it seems.

...and yet the other extreme, Turkey having everything she wants, has no benefit for the rest of us, those not "Turkish", never mind Cyprus.

(let's not forget the Jews and the Greeks are cousins too) (let's not forget that Greeks and Turks are cousins too)

...indeed, who thinks that Israel is naive enough to mix with Erdogan, a "Turk" but no Turk, it seems; a kin to no one.

A pipeline to Turkey is greatly beneficial, through Cyprus as a hub and an honest broker the region greatly benefits selling to Turkey gas, building capacity by integrating these infrastructures more broadly.

...Cyprus exists. If he wants the gas, there is no getting round that; friends with Israel, friends with Egypt, friends with Palestine, friends with Italy, to name a few, means friends with Cyprus too.

The future of Cyprus

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2022/02/20/the-future-of-cyprus/

.

...i will remind the author that both Canada and the USA are BBFs.

And, i suggest in Cyprus that in that regard "Greeks" and "Turks" are no different, both representing their electorate as Persons, representing Nations.

Yet, what of the Individual? What of the State?

Here is the Problem; that such representation for Cypriots does not exist effectively: affectively Cypriots Greek and Turkish have no representation as Individuals split as they are.

Let's not forget the mothers of those missing and found dead who remind us that while the "Greeks" and "Turks" were busy in their murderous sprees, they were never busy killing each other, but those not ''them''.

...so it is, that Cypriots must seek each other out; crossing the line explicitly to stand as one, to retake the word 'enosis' and to give it a Cypriot meaning, to take our swords out to fill them with meat so that in making souvla we can share it on our beaches under the Flag that ''they'' treat as a rag, and which is the only one which is in fact 'ours'.

...the question has become more obvious. Is there Cypriot representation for Cypriots as Cypriots?

Sadly the answer is no. (not yet, at least)

As Persons, of course there is an elite which leads, but they have made themselves impotent it seems toward acting against the mythological dogmas of "Greekness" and "Turkishness". Indeed, as Individuals, as Citizens in effect of one world, this sense of having a nature above such notions is lacking; for which we all suffer as Human beings, in defending these values and Principles.

...and what makes this man, "not Greek" (suddenly)? Must one be "Greek" to be Greek? And had he been Greek (and not Turkish) would he have been treated differently by the University? Was he "Greek" enough until it came to be that he too, represents Cypriots; now, not "Greek" or Greek? Absurd as they are, these questions warrant answers.

The Problem in Cyprus has never been the "Greeks" against the "Turks", in affect they are no different. To the Greeks and Turks who are Cypriot this should be abundantly clear by now. Thus, i am hopeful because the People, the other half as i like to call them have not spoken yet. Silenced or silent, they have the final word; Cypriots, may unite, (they may take back their beaches and their streets,) to speak aloud, that they want change, beyond "Them".

...as such, these elites should tread carefully lest they believe their own rhetoric. This man represents the Cypriots that they dismiss and ignore, who have for decades as Cypriots voted for men like this, and against those candidates "Greek" and/or "Turkish"; winning, even separated as they are so unnaturally: Cypriots are not few, or an insignificant population.

...what comes to mind is the "Cyprus solution", as Putin once suggested his Georgian foray could be described.

The Ukraine was not Russian before it was won by the Ottomans, and lost not so long ago, some 400 years. They are a People as History clearly indicates.

...and they were invaded most recently because of the imperialistic intentions of its much larger neighbour ("retaking" what's "theirs"); Universal Principles and such values set aside.

Such men as Putin, Erdogan, Trump and Xi question Humanity. They challenge, the rest of us, our commitment toward defending what such a notion means by defining Freedom's end, where their's begins.

Our View: EastMed pipeline is no longer an option, not even in theory

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2022/01/16/our-view-eastmed-pipeline-is-no-longer-an-option-not-even-in-theory/

.

...indeed, "first to market", counts in business. Cyprus, and Israel, along with Egypt and Greece have demonstrated from the start their intention to work as a region, as equals, collectively toward this purpose.

And, as things are Turkey is far behind having no support from the majors, or her neighbours but Libya, "wildcating", having crews which are not seasoned on ships she must buy and limited supplies: her chances of finding oil or gas are slim; refusing to respect UNCLOS as a frame for engagement projecting militarily her "supremacy" instead, she meddles, hoping a tribute will fall her way otherwise.

Who knows, the pipeline may go through Turkey, it has only to recognise that Cypriots exist.

..and who knows, the pipeline as discussed may be built despite the cost, because of security concerns.

I did not go crazy enough to fall in love with my executioner

Two things come two mind that Turkish Cypriots can do for themselves, instead of a boycott:

- they can vote, and express themselves; by destroying their ballot.

- they can stand under the only Flag that is rightfully theirs, peacefully; whether Greek Cypriots choose to join them or not.

...and, those who call themselves, "Cypriot Turks" have quite a lot to worry about, like the "Greeks" in Cyprus, who imagine(d) Cypriots Greek and Turkish as few. They are not. And they are the last to speak; when their leadership proves impotent, they will, i think, speak for themselves. They may indeed join together, come next summer, to make souvla on their beaches. Why not?

Such as it is, it is Turkish Cypriots the vanguard for this change, through unity. Beyond the Nation for a State, acts which demonstrate this Grace are needed, against the ''Turkishness'' ("Greekness" too,) which haunts all Cypriots everyday, as it haunts millions in Turkey today Turkish but not ''Turkish'', needing hope, with something to emulate which Cypriots, as Cypriots, may provide. Such as it is, indeed, it is Turkish Cypriots which may turn Turkey around, thinking about it; not the reverse.

...clearly, you are ignoring why the coup successful for three days, failed. Cypriots, to be more particular, Greek Cypriots did not support the "Greeks". They like the rest of Humanity at that point had put their hopes on the (rest of the) Guarantors, more particularly Turkey. And here we are torn in two, for "Turkishness". Indeed, these elites did not suffer from the horrible result, they thrive, both "Greek", and "Turk"; and 'us'?

...i ask you all to remember, who died, who were murdered and made to disappear in our division both in '63 and '74; it was not "them", it was those not "them": those Cypriot.

Cypriots (those who see themselves as a People Cypriot first) have no representation, divided as they are. While "They" control the Agenda, this has been a fact.

It is, in the end, the People themselves who must demonstrate their will for change if their Leadership will not act. So long as "Greekness" and "Turkishness" remain unopposed by them, for Cypriots they are impotent speakers of platitudes afraid to act.

Cyprus in his reply to Bagehote is quite correct. There is a difference between a Greek and a "Greek", and we as Cypriots know all too well that a "Turk" and a "Greek" are no different with what they do to Turks.

...it is not up to the Leadership or the UN for that matter, to defend a Cypriot's identity from "Turkishness", and "Greekness", it is the People themselves who must demonstrate this will.

Who represents Cypriots, as Cypriots, i ask. It is a serious question. Divided as they are this Leadership, (in this broad sense) they have exposed themselves as impotent legislators to make change, for Cypriots: having embraced "these" dogmas (by not opposing them), having divided themselves accordingly for the voters "this" represents.

...will the People themselves, therefore, openly seek change; to end all "this", a State above these Nations (a BBF)? Will they come out and show themselves (under the Flag, not "Greek", not "Turk", but rightfully theirs, of Cyprus) to be defending the Universal Principles which define "us" beyond "them", as Individuals, Human, equal and Free?

Indeed, it is not hard for me to imagine this change, and of intention, of people embracing a new meaning for the word Enosis in a Cypriot way. And they, the People, have not spoken yet waiting for their Leadership; this may change. Also, let's not forget, that as voters, as Cypriots, they are not small in numbers as "they" would have you believe, they always represent over decades, a majority, and something more than half any way it is counted.

...indeed, "the two sides", kind of says it all when in effect (including the Cypriots) there are three.

What Is Turkey Thinking In The Eastern Med?

...never mind the Treaty of Lausanne, "tossed out the window" says Erdogan.

That the problem that is the Problem, in Cyprus, has been reduced by "us" (those not "Turkish") to a problem is quite telling.

Such as it is, Turkish diplomacy works by attrition. 100 years does not seem like so long ago, but it appears that it is, given the world's reaction to someone who questions "our" commitment to Universal Principles, and the values that they represent; he may succeed, in defining "Turkishness" as something apart.

...the "Turks" vs the Turks.

In effect, the Problem in Turkey, like the Problem in Cyprus may be solved by the unity "Turkishness" provokes in its adversaries; both internationally, and in Turkey. Alone, none of them have the power he has, but together they may find a way. As in Cyprus, the power of 'enosis' can be defined, in a Cypriot way; the same power Turks need in Turkey.

...it is a hopeful moment in a counter intuitive kind of way. What with Turkey's Centennial but two years away he may turn on a dime, for his Legacy; fame rather than infamy from "us", the rest of us not "them". Turkey a State among States, not a Nation, perpetually at War with everyone else.

Turkish Aggression Scares Investors, Cyprus Finance Chief Says

…indeed, Cypriots can do a lot for themselves toward consolidating a Cypriot identity.

Dialog is most important, informed people making reasoned choices will naturally demonstrate that such a People exist committed to Universal Principles, and in effect, neither “Greek” or “Turkish”, the dogmas of exclusion, but Cypriot.

…news that 8,000 Turkish Cypriots will be welcomed to work in Cyprus itself is welcome.

…a certificate that any Cypriot may hang in their establishment warranting this fact, they are Cypriots, sends the same message to visitors who frequent these businesses, who they are.

…similarly in Hotels, it would be nice to know that not all the Hotels in the illegally occupied territories were “Turkish”. That the Government in Cyprus treats all Cypriot hoteliers equally. Needless to say that this allows any traveler Cypriot or not to sleep well at night with a clear conscience.

…and what of Universities? Which are credible, and based on a standard accepted internationally, which can be noted for their contributions to learning (if they are going to compete)? Who better than the Government to identify these institutions. There may be some Greek and some Turkish, the point is the students, the quality of education offered to them, as Cypriots, because in any case, they, are the future, and we, like them, make us a People as Citizens of the World.

If Leadership would take it as a given, that they represent Cypriots, despite the dysfunction, island-wide, that would be Leadership i could admire as a vanguard overcoming the Problem.

...it must have started this way, but at one point, it would be hard to imagine Makarios did not change his intentions. Remember he survived two assassination attempts, as though one was not enough; it was a Proxy War on many levels, very complex if you include the interlocutors, not just a war of "Greeks" against "Turks", or "Turks" against "Greeks", but "Turks" against Turks, "Greeks" against Greeks, and of course "Greeks" and "Turks" against Cypriots.

...all i am waiting for are Cypriots making souvla on their beaches, swords drawn with hunks of meat stabbed through for the fire, to eat the bounty of togetherness under the one Flag rightfully theirs; who would refuse Cypriots against the "Them" that has kept them divided, acting this way?

...when we thought we were together, we were happy; it is a good thing to recall Mr. Sener.

Silent (or silenced) as beings, again; Cypriots, wait for a Leadership to make them as happy.

Yet, We the People, (again), may take to the streets, and our beaches, to make this change ourselves.

... let's not forget, the word, enosis, to join what has been torn apart, does not yet have a Cypriot meaning.

Swords, our swords; we can take them out to fight the hatred that comes from "Greekness" and "Turkishness"; meat lovingly cooked on them and an open fire, to eat well with what was nurtured from the precious earth: a good souvla, this is the Cypriot way. Indeed if we gathered as Cypriots under the only Flag rightfully ours, who would be against it?

Re: elections in the illegally occupied territories

 https://www.cyprus-forum.com/cyprus47211-100.html#p911631

...indeed. The Problem has no solution if beyond Cyprus it cannot resolve the same problem in Turkey.

There will be "Greeks" living in the Turkish Constituency, too: they will be a minority. And they will have the same expectations as any "minority"; have you (Lordo)/"you" thought about that? (What of the Kurds in Turkey, or the Alevi; not "Turks" but Turkish, don't they deserve the same respect?)

Such is the way of a BBF; as Individuals we are within a State that defends Universal Principles, we represent ourselves as equals without any further need for distinction or discrimination, and, further as Persons, within states which promote these distinct identities, (Constituencies let's call them,) there is with its Liberty, responsibilities, representing as a majority recognition and trust toward the minorities among them. This is (also) the Cypriot way.

...what else can "You" (an identity seeking to qualify for recognition as a Constituency) be asking for, "purity"?

or to put it another way...

...do you think "Turkish" shit does not smell as bad as a "Greek's", when they enjoy eating the same food but call it by different names?

Cyprus to assume gas forum presidency

...in just four short years, this Forum has shown itself to be a powerful tool toward the rational exploitation of nature's resources; their safe, economic, exploration, transport, and distribution.

Needless to say there are many derivative benefits as well based on this respect and trust, which promote a regional hegemony, generally where the infrastructure between them and capacity is improved, and against Turkey's behaviour in particular; (the only major player unwilling to sit at the same table), ignoring UNCLOS, having tossed out the Treaty of Lausanne, and making maximalist demands, insisting in the Eastern Med. and the Aegean militarily, that these continental shelves as a whole "belong" to her exclusively.

Cyprus does well, joining in this enterprise, (along with the other members), having brought so many together, to share in what is a collective effort to make the right choices for themselves transparently.

"Turkishness" as it is being defined by Erdogan threatens all of us. What Turkish Cypriots do matters. In effect, they cannot remain silent in the face of "Cypriot Turks" and their aims. Unity, an enosis, of Cypriots Greek and Turkish will do a great deal to galvanise the People of Turkey to seek change similarly.

...indeed, the Problem is a Turkish problem that rattles it to its core. Turkey is a State in need of Constitutional reform having Constituencies, too.

With its roots in Cyprus it is a good place to begin; in finding the solution.

Mustafa Akinci talks about the "one man regime" in Turkey

 https://politis.com.cy/politis-news/o-moystafa-akintzi-mila-gia-to-kathestos-toy-enos-mono-andra-stin-toyrkia/#comment-5584700664

It is still possible for this man to build a legacy that will be remembered by us all. It takes courage and vision (which he may have). It takes patience most of all. And, i do not forget who elected this man to represent them; it was not the "Turks": he may after all decide who he is, a Turkish Cypriot or a "Cypriot Turk". He perseveres at least.

Let us not forget who is the vanguard in our struggle against an enemy which threatens the rest of us, (those of us not "Them"), "Turkishness" now, like "Greekness" then: it is Cypriots generally, and Turkish Cypriots in particular. Such is the real enemy. Without our enosis as Cypriots, Greek and Turkish, "they" thrive.

...in effect, and as a result, i am suggesting that it is not what Turkey can do to change Cyprus, it is what Cypriots can do to change Turkey; the big question.

What for the need of Constitutional reform in Turkey, this is something to think about. Unity in Cyprus, means unity in Turkey, equals as States. "Turkishness" will surely lead to Turkey's divide if Cyprus is divided. Both would do well with (a BBF,) having at another level of Government, Constituencies, where as Persons with their distinct identities they may represent as a majority their Goodwill to the minorities that live among them.

...souvla, there is still time to gather on the beaches under the one Flag which is "ours", as the People, to make some good food together. Certainly, "They", the ones who treat us and our Flag as a rag won't like that, and accordingly they will be exposed unable to join in such a celebration under it not "being" Cypriot.

I ask, will Mr. Akinci stand under the Flag of Cyprus? It has been years i am waiting for him to dare.

...indeed, let's not forget that both Canada and the USA are BBFs; Freedom for all, equals as Individuals, (and at another level of Government) Liberty as Persons respectful of the minorities that live among them by providing for their special needs as well.

...and let's not forget what an example that would be, for Turkey, now torn by "Turkishness" too, also in need of Constitutional reform.

Turkey ‘will not allow’ research ship to continue operations off Cyprus and Crete

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2021/10/08/turkey-will-not-allow-research-ship-to-continue-operations-off-cyprus-and-crete/

.

Actions create equal and opposite reactions. Ask all of Erdogan's neighbours, and a great many in the International communities with which he is engaging. Having "tossed out a window", the Treaty of Lausanne, Turkish hegemony does not look so inviting. Indeed, he can be credited as having done the most to bring this region together; witness the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum.

...while this incident is mundane; just another on a very long list in affect, i ask, will he go too far?

Let's remember that in two short years he will have to face his public in another election; and his own reckoning with the Legacy he is working so hard to make, for Turkey, on Turkey's Centennial: that shines or remains tarnished, living in Fame to much international esteem or infamy.

...it seems that everything is linked to the Problem, as it has expanded beyond Cyprus, leaving the Cyprus Problem to become but a problem among many. "Turkishness", as it is, questions Humanity, its values and resolve; this is but one small example. It is not a threat to Cyprus alone, but a threat to all of us who are unlike "Them".

Turkey must allow access to Turkish army archives for missing persons, Presidential Commissioner says

...my family members (six of them) were found only recently (a few years ago); i thank the CMP and Mdme. Sevgul Uludag, for their tireless efforts to that end.

...indeed, i do not forget what the families of these "missing" want, Turkish or Greek. I like them would like to see them memorialized as Cypriots, with their names recorded together on one stone. Somewhere where we may gather to remember them; wickedly betrayed by the "Greeks" and "Turks" that live(d) among us.

Turkey will not atone, unless Cypriots join as one against these dogmas; what chance is there in that with Cypriots silent. He begs us on our own beaches to come; yet who dares to make souvla peacefully under the one Flag "they" treat as a rag? Ask yourselves; what frees us from "Greekness" and "Turkishness"?

...Enosis, such a revolution is needed; i do not despair: the People will speak.

Citizens must pitch in for Cyprus settlement, Spehar says

https://cyprus-mail.com/2021/09/22/citizens-must-pitch-in-for-cyprus-settlement-spehar-says/

.

....well said Mdme. Spehar.

Indeed we (the rest of us not "Greek" or "Turkish") are expecting great things from the Leadership in these negotiations on the Problem, in Cyprus.

...so too, we should be expecting great things from the People themselves.

Picnics come to mind, and enosis, two words in Cyprus which have their own special and unique meanings...

...we, (those of us for unity, as Cypriots) can take back these words, on the beaches making souvla together peacefully, under the one Flag, the Flag of Cyprus, "They" treat as a rag. That would be helpful, don't you think? Indeed, our Leadership should not be able to look out their windows, or while driving in their cars, without seeing this flag; that would be helpful too.

Eide also said the same thing, not coincidentally; never mind the rest: it is Cypriots who can/will solve this mess.

...did i mention enclaves?

 https://www.cyprus-forum.com/cyprus26478-30.html#p910818

.

...you are right. Without enclaves there would not have been a Turkish Cypriot constituency; it is as TPap said (sometime before the Problem), as a much younger man, that they were everywhere in Cypriot society, something like sand if it was scattered across the island's map.

...but they do(did) exist, though politically and historically it is hard to tell who they were founded by. And it is up to Cypriots to mitigate the result of having used them for their original intentions. Let's not forget it is a geographic term; as i've said many times before, intentions count. Like enosis it is a word which has been twisted, hijacked if you will, by "Greeks", and "Turks". The words have no meaning in Cyprus but bad, to Cypriots generally, and to Turkish Cypriots in particular. But, it does not mean that they cannot take back the words from "them", with acts that all Cypriots may understand and defend, in their meaning a Cypriot way "they" fear, without violence but in a collective will for more choice, better livings and lives.

..if it were possible to return to 1960 with what we know today, would this island's dwellers have acted differently? "Greeks" and "Turks" would still exist, but Cypriots would not have taken them to be fathers, or brothers; while family their allure would not have been captivating at all.

Enclaves allow for the Green Line to remain, if they are scattered on both sides of it. And, to preserve an Identity quite distinct from Greeks as speakers, (which represent an overwhelming majority by population). No one should expect an enclave to be exclusive, it is the service you will obtain in a language of your choosing that counts, and in either case respectfully whether a part of the majority or not. Enclaves allow for dignity and Grace, some at least, as communities, will signify a return, Justice seen, as communities. Bizonal does not mean two parts (and mutually exclusive to each other), but like Bicommunal, an indivisible whole, which when more closely described is parted in more than one way.

...in my Cyprus, the Maronites as Maronites would exist, and their Territorial Jurisdictions, so too the Armenians, (and the British), with the same kind of self-representation any other Constituency would have at this level of Government.

(again, i ask you to free your mind of the narrative you still suffer, to look beyond to the something more than this.)

...yes, it's safe to say that i did not live in one, but unlike most Cypriots i can say that i have been in one. Galatia was very big in comparison to my village, so close but a world apart. Dusty is what i remember; and, that fear you have: i do know what it is.

...houses, not homes, they had in such conditions. You may remember, i do; we were betrayed by our own nature, now afraid, and now divided, to recall mythic Glories from the past, and few in that regard could speak otherwise, or even more reasonably without in affect risking their lives.

Indeed, to denounce the injustice, it is Justice which needs to be seen. Cypriots who lost their lives wouldn't want it otherwise, an equal and opposite effect, from goodness, and from all of us the living who survive them.

This time, it will not be "Greeks" or "Turks" that may make these enclaves but Cypriots for their benefit, not "theirs".

Details of a BBF are what will get the Cyprus problem solved, British High Commissioner says

...unity in Cyprus, unity in Turkey too.

What of the State, who it represents; not Persons, Individuals as equals without further discrimination or distinction.

...the same, in Turkey, and in Cyprus, in any country which respects the Universal Principals on which our Human condition is based; this is Freedom. And what, at another level of government, of Liberty, as majorities and as Persons having the capacity to demonstrate Goodwill toward the minorities that live among us with respect and recognition by providing for their special needs as well.

It is hopeful that such a notion could thrive, a BBF in Cyprus, worthy of its emulation wherever the Problem appears.

...and let's not forget Erdogan's own deadline, if he is to make a Legacy for himself in History judged great; should he succeed in bringing to Turkey's Centennial in two years a Constitution for Turkey, which unites its People now torn by the same "Turkishness" which has left Cyprus's people torn apart decades.
