...indeed, this is the kind of courage that will stir the hearts of all Cypriots. That is the point, isn't it?
Beyond the assumption that we are "Greeks" and "Turks", exists the notion of Humanity. The other half, as i like to call them exist too; Cypriots.
And if Cypriots remain silent now it may mean the end of it, our Freedom as well as our Liberty, what with Mr. Erdogan's picnicking on the beaches and now the "Protocol" with its threat to all of us.
Mr. Mavroyiannis clearly knows this. If not Leadership that is Cypriot, having the support of the Cypriot People, there is no end, let alone the peaceful end to the Problem; a Cypriot whether Turkish or Greek would find his idea a good one. But, he will have to make more statements like these, regarding health, tourism and education, taxes, corruption and our good governance; 'twisted' from the perspective of "Greeks" and "Turks", not so for Cypriots.
...taking it from the AKEL perspective if their war is a war on the elite, a class war; they must ask themselves who they represent; "Greekness"?, "Turkishness"? Labor is their issue, (in fact it is against "Them") if they are a Cypriot Party (and for Basic Human Rights). They must demonstrate their commitment to labouring people everywhere starting at home, now that Turkish Cypriots need this help the most, now that Cypriots need this help the most. Such as it is, i ask, why not under the Flag of Cyprus rally the people (island-wide), who does it offend; Cypriots?
It is a small change in intentions that is needed by 'us' to convince a man like Mr. Erdogan, that Cypriots exist.
