Do people in Cyprus really want a solution asks peace activist

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/04/26/do-people-in-cyprus-really-want-a-solution-asks-peace-activist/

.

...i remind you only because i want to remind all of us, in effect repeating what you said, its sensibilities at least, ''being'' Cypriot i feel your pain. (I say you are not alone in your intentions while few of like mind speak, so unlike the ''Greeks'' and ''Turks'' who have such a strong representation for themselves), do not despair, be ready; at the time of 'our' choosing such an enosis may rise, (it is natural), it is possible by overcoming our fears and by giving it a Cypriot meaning: together 'we' are a force greater than "Them".

...indeed, the Problem is not isolated to Cyprus alone. In Turkey, (and as it is evolving in the Ukraine for example), a BBF is not a bad idea. Freedom, where Individuals find their representation within a State where without further distinction or discrimination all are equal under a Rule of Law. And Liberty, where as Persons having representation as a Majority, they demonstrate toward their Minorities the same capacity in providing for such special needs as well.

...i remind you so that you may not get distracted by "their" argument(s), falling into this trap; that Cypriots do not or cannot speak being few and insignificant, this is a myth and this is a lie. I think the Greek Cypriots spoke well saying nothing at all: three days, without their help the coup fell. And it is island wide the Cypriot voter who has since then held up their Identity from being usurped by "Them" for fifty years. (Imagine, an illegal regime just like the illegal regime we have but "Greek"; could have been but it is not.)

Yet we are not so lucky with this current threat. Erdogan's notion of "Turkishness" is not a Turkish Cypriot problem alone, (and it is spreading). Because it questions the Universal Principles on which our Basic Human Rights are based, it is a threat which is not just Cypriot but the world's. Turkish Cypriots should not be fighting alone against ''it'', as with 'us' from one fait accompli to another they are about to be swallowed whole (i.e. the protocols), that much is clear (to me)...

Do people in Cyprus really want a solution asks peace activist

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/04/26/do-people-in-cyprus-really-want-a-solution-asks-peace-activist/

.

...i would like to remind you that those of us who are Cypriots are no less ignored today as they were in the past by the other half as i like to call them, "Greeks" and "Turks".

'We' have been silenced perhaps, but as Cypriots there is that same love for this island as always; i do not despair. Across the island Cypriots live, there is no doubt about it. Has any of "Their" candidates ever won an election overwhelmingly? Even divided, unnaturally, over decades, this is the truth. If not for Cypriots, 'we' would be "them".

...it is an existential question which as yet it seems has not gone too far. Yet silent no more, when the People speak for themselves, i suggest they may join to make souvla together on their beaches, exposing those who would be against it. And under their flag, the one rightfully theirs', the Flag of Cyprus, the one "They" treat as a rag, they may make their existence clear.

In search of common ground in Cyprus

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/04/09/in-search-of-common-ground-in-cyprus/

.

...all the elections we have had are referenda enough.

Over all these decades even torn unnaturally apart, the voters have spoken most clearly.

Ask yourselves, why has Cyprus remained a country (read: a People) whole (while having a portion of it illegally occupied) despite the "Turkishness" and "Greekness" which have dominated Cypriot politics since its advent? It is because the Cypriot People, as voters, Greek or/and Turkish have never given to one of "Their" candidates an overwhelming majority. In fact, all these years, it is Cypriots by their sheer numbers, voting, who have kept the Cypriot identity alive; 'we' would be "them" otherwise: as Persons choosing to serve what is the higher order of their identity, that what the "Greeks" and the "Turks" would like to usurp from them, that of an Individual.

There is no question that the People of Cyprus want to "be" Cypriot; it is their leaders, failing them that are blind to the message, who see the greater advantage, (they have) gaining their power as representatives of a "Turkish" side and a side representing its voters as "Greeks", in a competition; to keep things the way they are, this fait-accompli (where Cypriots have no effective representation) is to "their" benefit let's remember.

...it reminds me of the coup that succeeded and just three days later failed: what the ''Greeks'' did not count on were Cypriots, Greeks, choosing overwhelmingly not to support it and it failed. Again a referendum was not needed to decide if Cypriots exist; it is the meaning of their actions, again and again, which are being ignored.

Who says Cypriots are unwilling to consider a BBF? The facts bear out a different story, unlike the narrative that "They" would have you believe. Cypriots exist, despite "Their" efforts and, they are not few.

(No need for more referendums but more public demonstration is needed, under the Flag of Cyprus, their flag, a Cypriot's, the one "They" treat (and have treated) as a rag for so long.)

Enosis is needed. Cypriots united (without the need for further discrimination or distinction), giving this strong word a Cypriot meaning just as strong; who would be against it if 'we' joined together to make souvla on our beaches?

...who would be against it if Cypriots joined together, against the "Turks" and their protocol, against the "Turkishness" such "Cypriot Turks" support, where in public demonstration Turkish Cypriots find themselves fighting alone, now? Who should you blame if they fail, ask yourself if you are a Cypriot, before it is too late.

Action, direct actions not words are needed, i think. Carefully wording questions so that the (likely) answer is known will not help 'us'; such a notion scares me given the "who" who will most certainly have a hand in its asking.

The conundrum that is the Cyprus problem

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/04/09/the-conundrum-that-is-the-cyprus-problem/

.

...in Turkey there are "Turks" just like in Cyprus, hated by the other half of the population who are Turkish.

"Turkishness" as it is being defined by Erdogan, threatens all of us actually. (Not just Cypriots, but the rest of the world.)  What Turkish Cypriots do matters. In effect, facing their own existential question, they cannot remain silent in the face of "Cypriot Turks" with their aims. And they should not be fighting "Them" alone.

Unity, an enosis of Cypriots Greek and Turkish (without further distinction or discrimination,) will do a great deal to galvanise the People of Turkey seeking change similarly. People everywhere need the same Hope that comes from such unity first, as Humans a single race. (Thus, what is wrong with a BBF where within such a State there exists Constituencies; the Liberty which beyond this Freedom, that allows people as majorities to demonstrate to the minorities living among them the same Goodwill and in Goodfaith.)

...isn't that the problem, that in Turkey too (and (e.g.) as it is evolving in the Ukraine) exists the same Problem?

...indeed, the Problem is a problem that in Turkey rattles it to its core. Turkey (like Cyprus) is a State in need of Constitutional reform having Constituencies, too. Not all Turks are "Turks". Not all Greeks are "Greeks".

...and with its roots in Cyprus it is a (read: the) good place to begin; in finding the solution.

It will take 'us', the People to make it clear that we are not few or insignificant. And it is good to remember that even after the decades of our unnatural separation, it is Cypriots Turkish and Greek who have kept us whole by their votes; giving never once an overwhelming victory to one of "those" candidates: these are the facts.

In Cyprus it is not an issue of: Greeks versus Turks, or "Turks" versus "Greeks'', it is an issue of "Greeks" / "Turks" versus Turks / Greeks. Not so easy to explain and in short, it is a conundrum.

If they, these people who call themselves Cypriots, remain unheard by leadership(s) which ignore their intention,  they will take to the streets; as they have done in the past (quite naturally), beyond their Liberty, but as Individuals, different as Persons perhaps, but united for their Freedom, for the Basic Human Rights that are being usurped from them, divided as they have been by the dogmatists who seeking power question such Universal Principles hatefully without any respect or trust for identities not "their own".

Can Cyprus ever be reunited? An hour long debate hosted by Iain Dale

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HxRginFRNE

.

"Cypriot Turks" like Mr. Tatar would have you believe that Turkish Cypriots are few. Yet, even after the decades of being unnaturally torn from their identity as Cypriots, (as Individuals), like the Greek Cypriots, no "Greek" and no "Turkish" candidate has ever won overwhelmingly in elections; Cypriots exist, and they are the many. This is something to think about. And what is wrong with a BBF? An identity as a State, as an Individual prepared to defend the values and the Principles that secure our Freedom and our Basic Human Rights as equals without the need for further distinctions and discrimination, as well as an identity as Persons where having the Liberty of self-representation within Cypriot Constituencies, mindful as majorities of the minorities living among them by offering the same trust and respect, recognising their special needs and by providing for them with their Agendas in Goodwill, and Goodfaith. ...let's never forget who died most horribly with this History of violence in Modern times on this island: those who were not "Them", civilian, unarmed, and more reasoned. The "Greeks" and the "Turks" if you look more closely never really busied themselves killing each other. This too, is something to think about. ...what comes first? Is it the identity you carry as a Person, or your identity as a member of the greatest whole, call it Humanity? This is the Problem that is the problem not just in Cyprus where "Greekness" was defeated with the coup's failure from a total lack of support and where "Turkishness" remains an even greater existential threat (to all of us) because of how it is now dividing Turkey, and how in the Ukraine Ukrainians suffer from "Ukrainians" and "Russians" the same fate, being divided, and of having their Identities as Individuals usurped from them. But, i am hopeful. Who better than Putin and Erdogan to find a solution; they know the Problem well, they know that from infamy to fame for them comes with a small change of intentions.

Leader of all Cypriots?

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/03/26/leader-of-all-cypriots/

.

Enosis, it needs a Cypriot meaning.

It needs 'us', if we are to give it a Cypriot meaning, to rise above what "Greekness" and "Turkishness" do (and have done) to this word in our hearts, to rise above the fear within ourselves and to "be" Cypriot. Without further distinction or discrimination, to defend each other and to defend the Universal Principles which are our Basic Human Rights, to be Free as Individuals, and where as Persons having the same Liberty, representing as majorities the same mindfulness toward the minorities living among them. (What is, a BBF.)

...i salute the author of this piece; it is a most hopeful consideration and it brought tears to my eyes.

...yes, Mr. Christodoulides may become the President of the Republic we have wanted for a long time, not just our representative, but to be seen as representing us in the changes he effects to all our daily lives for the better.

Tatar threatens resignation if Turkey changes course

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/03/22/tatar-threatens-resignation-if-turkey-changes-course/

.

...foreshadowing the things to come, i imagine Mr. Tatar has a much better job waiting for him already.

It bodes well for Turkey, and for Cyprus, (and the Ukraine as well); the Problem solved.

What is a BBF, you ask? It is the Constitutional reform we all need because as Individuals without any further distinction or discrimination we share a common Heritance. Thus a State where we defend the Freedom defined as our Basic Human Rights based on Universal Principles is needed. And, as Persons, needed as well, the same respect and trust for each other, the Liberty to demonstrate as Majorities toward the Minorities living among us the same recognition by providing for these special needs in Goodwill and Goodfaith as well.

...yet, the glorious battle for ''Turkishness'' goes on, Tatar among them, a dark state if not in the light back in the shadows, Erdogan would shine by turning on a dime getting back on the train he calls democracy.

With this change of intention, (a BBF for Turkey's reform) he may win more than his election but the International esteem of his peers because, just like Turkey which is not "Turkish", Cyprus is not "Greek" (and the Ukraine is not "Ukrainian''). Indeed Erdogan knows the Problem well. He may succeed in giving it a solution that is "perfect" (an 'old time' criteria (also)), something everyone may agree secures their needs as Persons and their Rights as the People, something he will emulate in his own Constitutional reform, perhaps even arriving on time for an unforgettable Centennial.

Our View: Talking about your good intentions on Cyprus talks is not enough

...the EU is a BBF, the US too, and Canada, and Australia, for example.

For Cyprus, reform as in a BBF is a Turkish idea, Mr. Ecevit to be exact.

...as such, given that Turkey is not just "Turkish", (like Cyprus is not "Greek"), a BBF should be appealing, here too, for their own Constitutional reform.

...and in the State that you propose, the same as a Greek one, the island no longer one People, what does that say about all of us, as Cypriots? Ask yourself how welcoming can we be when we will be teaching our children to fear the "others" and to hate their neighbours.

Decades we have lived unnaturally torn apart. What has either of our Leadership's done but to secure their power representing a political dogma which in effect excludes any representation of Cypriots as Cypriots, treating each other as adversaries. This must change.

...don't forget that as a population of voters, neither side after all these years have ever voted overwhelmingly for a "Greek'' or a "Turk". Cypriots live across the whole island still: it's their votes that have kept their country united even in this most dysfunctional state.

Re: Cypriotism (Cypriot Nationalism)

...i wonder if this will get published (it is being moderated); reply to John Aziz Kent Kent

...well said.

Cypriots want most of all a President who thinks of them as Cypriots: Individuals without further distinction or discrimination, his values based on the Universal Principles which are the foundation of our Basic Human Rights, who has the courage and conviction to end this/the corruption we are suffering.

...a BBF demands as well Cypriot Constituencies so that as Persons (and their leadership) we can express toward each other the same respect and trust as such, majorities demonstrating their Goodwill, and Goodfaith, by recognisng and providing for the special needs of minorities living among them.

...i ask where is the Greek Constituency, if there is a Republic and the desire for a Turkish Constituency?

Indeed Turkey would learn a lot from us if as Cypriots we joined to ''be'' Cypriots, to fight the "Turkishness" that threatens our very existence today and "Greekness" which remains undefeated, exposing them as one in the same, (consider the "Russians" and the Ukrainians who would not let Russian children learn their mother tongue i call "Ukrainians"; what makes them different to "Turks", or "Greeks"?): what is good for Cyprus, as Constitutional reform goes, is good for Turkey (and Ukraine) too, if you think about it..

cheers.

Our View: Talking about your good intentions on Cyprus talks is not enough

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/03/16/our-view-talking-about-your-good-intentions-on-cyprus-talks-is-not-enough/

.

...indeed, let's remember Mr Eide. Certainly Cyprus, the notion that Cypriots exist across the island invites the question of what would happen if as the People they represented themselves, instead of allowing their leadership to leave them divided under the fallacy that as Cypriots they are few and as such insignificant.

...truth be told, should Cypriots decide to demonstrate under their Flag, the one that "They" treat (and have treated as a rag for so long), they would be a force to be reckoned with: "Turkishness" (and "Greekness") would be exposed for what they are. More importantly Cypriots by taking back the word "Enosis", from "Them", demonstrating publicly in their streets peacefully and on their beaches together, giving it (enosis) a Cypriot meaning, as such forms a very powerful message which cannot be ignored.

...i ask, if there is a President for all Cypriots, and given that there is a Cypriot Constituency which seeks to nurture as Persons their own distinct identity, where are the other Cypriot Constituencies who could stand in unanimity with them regarding their equal need for recognition? And as majorities presenting such Constitutional reform to the President, to represent the respect and trust they have for the minorities living among them, providing in their Agendas for these special needs as well, who would refuse them?

...thinking out of the box means, "being" Cypriot, and being a People, standing together wanting change.

I do not despair because despite the decades, it is Cypriots who have kept 'us' from being divided most unnaturally, by voting as Cypriots. Otherwise we would already be divided: yet "Their" candidates have never won a clear majority from their electorate even torn apart as it is; quite remarkable actually.

North’s new ‘airline’ is misnamed

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/03/15/norths-new-airline-is-misnamed/

.

...more of the same.

When it comes to anything this regime does, it is always a sham, never what "they" claim it to be.

...like the water, and the electricity, not a drop and not a watt "belong" to them; someone with deep pockets somewhere in Turkey decides who is thirsty and how much it will cost for light. What else can be expected to travel?

Such as it is, Cypriots have no representation in this condition where they have been silenced as such.

"Turkishness" is a bane to all of them (Cypriots), it threatens their very existence. And while Turkish Cypriots must take up the vanguard against their exploitation (by "Cypriot Turks") they should not be fighting alone.

...in a way, i am relieved that nothing has changed; but things cannot stay the same forever.

Christodoulides: no time to lose in trying to break deadlock

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/03/09/christodoulides-no-time-to-lose-in-trying-to-break-deadlock/

.

Quote:
"That federation would comprise a federal government with a single international personality, along with a Turkish Cypriot constituent state and a Greek Cypriot constituent state, which would be of equal status."

...this much we know so far.

(at least) three governing bodies must exist for this agreement to fructify Identities for each.

...if Mr. Tatar wants equality as a state: ask, where is "a Greek Cypriot constituent state", its equal.

And let's hope Mr. Christodoulides remembers (and never forgets) that while he was elected by Greek speaking Cypriots, as Cypriots left torn unnaturally apart by the extremists i call "Greeks" and "Turks" that live among them, he must represent all Cypriots despite this dysfunction; (in effect representing what is not "Them").

...what is a BBF but a political system where as Individuals we have Basic Human Rights, defending them on the Universal Principles on which they are based. And as Persons, the Liberty to express our Goodwill and Goodfaith toward the minorities living among us accordingly. (Not two governments, but two levels of government.)

Don't blame Zelenskyy, he is not "Ukrainian" winning an election against them; he fights for the very thing you want most: Freedom, without further distinction or discrimination to be respected and recognised as an Individual first.

Ukrainians are like Cypriots, they exist and they are not few, despite the "Russians" and "Ukrainians", "Greeks" and "Turks" who would have you believe differently.

...if you choose against evil, Lordo, beware whose "side" you are choosing. Are you against a Ukraine that is united against "Them" because they place Basic Human Rights above their own distinct identities as Persons?

...or as in Cyprus, will it be divided, (by "Them"), left divided until the next melee; their children taught to hate one another?

What is the Problem is the problem.

The History is valuable to our considerations on this topic, because here too the problem is the Problem; Hate to divide 'us' is a powerful tool in the hands of Persons who define themselves apart.

...Genocide, "Cleansing", "population exchange", "revenge"; "This" must stop. Cyprus is not the first country where such incidences occurred, it is where they should have stopped.

The Problem it seems has been long forgotten, to become problems of political will, our Human condition ignored. Indeed, the Problem was linked to Cyprus, and for a while it was the Cyprus Problem but not at the moment.

...what is the Helsinki Accord. (something to think about)

Organisationally, the Citizen's Individual Rights secured as people, and as People self-representation as well.

The Problem (i'm not joking,) is the problem; (intentions count,) what is a BBF?

...NATO (too), as i am suggesting, their Mission refined may include Russia; the "Russians" of course must decide if they are inclined to defend Europe as Europeans defending the Basic Human Rights (as Individuals), Universal Principles afford.

...is it pure coincidence that Putin has dismissed the Helsinki Accord's significance, just as Erdogan has "tossed out the window" the Treaty of Lausanne?

...is it pure coincidence that Russians and Ukrainians have been divided as Ukrainians, as in Cyprus where decades "Turkishness" successfully divides us, by usurping the Cypriot identity of Turcophones, and by defining all Greeks as "Greeks"?

(Only counter-intuitively can i be hopeful, it seems; fame rather than infamy their Legacy by finding change in themselves.)

...are 'we' to go beyond "winning" (is also something to think about).

...i may be "ambivalent", because i believe most of all that 'we' need facts to make our own judgments; i believe in a better outcome frankly, than one "side" losing/winning, like Ukrainians who are not "Ukrainians", more than that.

...ask the all in "Russians" (here) what they think of me: none consider my views supporting their own; but they can take comfort that "Americans", "Ukrainians", "Greeks", and "Turks", are treated in that regard equally by me.

...i am Cypriot (and Canadian), and, of "Them" i know (read: suffered) quite a lot. Being Greek does not make me "Greek", and being Greek i know i am Turkish and Russian, etc.: a member of one Family called Man.

That's the Problem, in Cyprus, and as it is evolving in the Ukraine: a Person you may be; for the security such a notion offers, as an Individual are you willing to give up your Basic Human Rights?

...i think the reason why i write is pretty clear, i am an activist; most of all to educate, and to keep people up-to-date.

As to my opinions, when i am openly expressing them, they are clear (perhaps not yet understood); does it matter that so few openly support them by their comments (or if i am liked by one "side" against another), i don't think so.

...be helpful: if you are a writer and you want to blahblahblah onward open a topic, and vent.

(Think of all the topics where it is nothing (almost) but my stream, although i certainly do not want you to do to them what you do to Lordo's.), wot?

Biggest election losers? Cyprus’ largest parties

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/02/14/biggest-election-losers-cyprus-largest-parties/

.

Mr. Christodoulides is beholding to no one in this election win but the people who voted for him.

...this bodes well, for the People.

One hopes the Ministers he chooses will be the best qualified for the job as a result.

...i was hopeful when AKEL succeeded in having elected a Turkish Cypriot as a Cypriot MEP; failing to expand upon the effort, nothing was done to demonstrate this same solidarity for people as a working class across Cyprus before and during the elections for a President of Cyprus: something to think about.

Parties will have to work harder to draw back the public's confidence lost; leadership will change, but more importantly their Missions must also change to become better representatives of Cypriots without further discrimination or distinction: whether it is only the "Greek Constituency" who are the voters or not.

...as Cypriots, enosis is a word 'we' must take back from the extremists who are still living among us by giving it a Cypriot definition, beyond Party lines most certainly, beyond the artificial ethnic divide absolutely.

...(DISY fails 'us' for the same reason.)

Mavroyiannis concedes defeat

.

...no overwhelming majority of voters for the President, and a good voter turnout.

It is good news. Mr. Christodoulides too, will take this into account; one thing is certain, Cypriots are united on the issues where they want change. And, to have a lasting Legacy he must make changes in himself, to be a (better) Cypriot, if he wants to deliver on his promises. Much can be said of the Turkish Cypriot, at the vanguard against "Turkishness" in that regard. It is hopeful that during his campaign he visited such leaders in the occupied territories. I will be watching how these relationships grow, as i will be watching for the comprehensive changes in our Institutions that will free them from any self-serving purpose favoring one Person over another. Indeed, neither "Greek" or "Turkish" must he "be", but beyond that a Cypriot. Young as he is he does not remember the time before this unnatural divide. Yet, i expect him to appreciate how much Cypriots need him to be their representative as Individuals, (being their President), whether it is as a Constituency that he was elected or not.

Thank-You Mr. Mavroyiannis for your excellent campaign. It was worth it. Your cause is 'our' cause; Cypriots made that clear by getting you to the second round, and by leaving the new President a lot to think about, winning as he did without a landslide. In any case, the Problem remains; as a Patriot i imagine you will continue your fight against it.

Cyprus on the brink: Why a solution is more urgent than ever

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/02/10/cyprus-on-the-brink-why-a-solution-is-more-urgent-than-ever/

.

...it is not Cyprus on the brink, but the world.

What is the Problem? Is it a problem known as the Cyprus problem (read:Problem)?

...this is the problem.

Being older, i remember the origins of the word with the capital "P". And the dream which still seems only possible.

...what is Liberty/Freedom, Nation/State, Person/Individual; a BBF? (...one can look to the USA: the very first.)

Cypriots crushed the Junta (they did not join them); they are not "Greeks" but Greek: let's not forget that.

Turkish Cypriots are at the vanguard against Cyprus' biggest adversary, "Turkishness"; they should not be fighting alone.

...like the rest of the planet on the brink Cyprus is in peril. (...just look at how the Ukraine is evolving.)

Enosis i say, Lest we Forget, Ignorance like Disease and Hunger are bigger enemies; we should not be fighting each other.

Presidential elections 2023: The Turkish Cypriot view (video)

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/02/03/presidential-elections-2023-the-turkish-cypriot-view-video/

.

...and here it is, the most inconvenient truth; the shameful truth: Cypriots as Individuals do not have political representation, it having been usurped from them by the "Greeks" and "Turks" among them who have far less interest in such Basic Human Rights based on Universal Principles.

While Cypriots can be identified as Persons with their own distinct identities, they are no different in their desire for Freedom, and for Liberty; torn apart as they are has provided neither.

...indeed, with such "Leadership", the People in effect must speak for themselves. As it appears, such leadership that we have only want power, and as it is they have only to win "their" constituency for that.

Enosis, dare i say it: what Cypriots need; to take back that word from "them" and to give it a Cypriot meaning.

...under the flag "they" treat as a rag, the Flag of Cyprus, it is not hard for me to imagine Cypriots, Greek and Turkish, gathered together peacefully, on their beaches and on their streets.

What Ukrainians think about Zelenskyy now?

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hb7LQ2xRKV0&lc=UgwWiwi8JP5i9FT9aJp4AaABAg.9ldOBggjfBA9lejQrvkFkL

.

I ask because i speak neither Russian or Ukrainian. I ask because the Ukraine is not made up of "Ukrainians". Just like Russia, all Russians are not "Russian".

The question becomes, who is fighting this war, who supports it and why.

Russians fighting "Russians", most certainly; (the Ukraine is a harbinger for the things to come in Russia itself if Putin cannot keep the trains in his country running on time). (And in the Ukraine who elected Zelenskyy, not those "Ukrainian"; they failed.)

...it made me happy to confirm that Russians fight in the Ukraine against Putin's mythic dreams: for Freedom, and i hope for the Liberty such a State can offer Persons.

(Is their a Ukrainian Battalion of 'Russians', e.g.?)

What is a BBF? Ask yourself. There lies the Problem (a problem for many Peoples divided by their distinctions, and thus usurped of their Basic Human Rights). Intentions count.

...do Russians and Ukrainians as Persons have the same respect and trust for each other: as Individuals, Citizens of Ukraine; of course they do. That's the point.

Slava Ukraini, i say. (a Canadian feeling homeless living here, 'his' country divided as "Greeks" and "Turks" in Cyprus watching the same hateful dogmas spread around the world.)

UN Secretary-General expresses ‘full support’ for his Cyprus representative

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/01/28/un-secretary-general-expresses-full-support-for-his-cyprus-representative/

.

Mr. Stewart has stepped into it, the Cyprus Problem, like it or not. (...welcome to Cyprus.)

...indeed, i blame the "Greeks" for all the misery. I blame the "Turks" exactly for the same reasons.

But for the other half as voters decades torn apart unnaturally who place Basic Human Rights and Universal Principles above all else, "They" would have won by now. It is something to think about; Cypriots are not few.

If Mr. Stewart wants to help Cypriots in Cyprus, it is important to never forget that the Problem, as symptoms go, may be at the root of it in Cyprus, but such Constitutional reform, a BBF, serves the needs of Persons in Turkey, and as it is evolving in the Ukraine as well (for example), and for the same reasons.

Freedom and Liberty; as Individuals and amongst Persons: is that a lot to ask?

Indeed the problem in Cyprus is not about Greeks against Turks, nor about "Turkishness" vs. "Greekness", but "Greeks" and "Turks" (anti-Cypriots) against Turks and Greeks (Cypriots).

...let's remember that Canada is a BBF. Canada and Canadians as Canadians is not hard to imagine while it too is a country made up of many constituencies, and each with their own distinct identities. As such, i am hopeful that Mr. Stewart's insights may prove useful toward solving the Problem, for the world and for the People of Cyprus suffering the problems from it.

As long as Turkey continues threats to Greece and Cyprus we will not approve sale of F-16s, US Senator says

https://www.parikiaki.com/2023/01/as-long-as-turkey-continues-threats-to-greece-and-cyprus-we-will-not-approve-sale-of-f-16s-us-senator-says/

.

Senator Menendez is to be applauded for his steadfast conviction toward the Universal Principles and Basic Human Rights fostered originally by what is enshrined in the American Constitution: Freedom; what Rights we have as Individuals which we defend as such accordingly as equals without discrimination or distinction, and Liberty; as Persons having distinct identities  demonstrating as Majorities toward the Minorities living among them the same Goodwill.

Turkey would do well with a BBF in its own Constitutional reform, as was Turkey's suggestion for Cyprus before the dramatic shift Mr. Erdogan has taken to disrupt the order that the Treaty of Lausanne secured for the whole region, (and the world,) not just (in) Cyprus and Greece.

Let us remember that it was the notion of "Greekness" which brought the misery that left Cypriots divided since 1974. And let us also remember that after the coup's initial success, in three days, it failed because Cypriots, Greek Cypriots in particular overwhelmingly did not support it.

Let us remember most of all that "Turkishness" still remains and demonstrates itself to be as a venture no different to the "Greekness" brought down in effect by Greeks, that as a dogma it is expanding in a hateful enterprise toward supremacy over all "others" including in Turkey itself where Citizens are divided, more divided than ever defined as "Turkish" and those who are not.

...if NATO has the purpose of promoting good neighbourly relations among countries, ultimately their aim should be to include Russia's membership as well.

Greece and Turkey, as a case in point; both members despite their differences is a problem where a solution must be found, that there will be a mechanism for ending disputes which escalate in size militarily, by its members.

...what was said about NATO, by Trump is true, America does not want to pay this bill alone anymore; especially since their military missions are more often (and more costly than in the past).

Indeed the mission itself has changed, and what was the natural order of things Internationally speaking has changed, since its advent.

...i ask, how much of the Free Trade we all enjoy is thanks to the American Navy "ruling" the High Seas?

Like it or not this era is ending. And for Commercial purposes, practically speaking, such an oversight is still needed, especially where such spaces "belong" to no one.

...NATO's capacity to function in unity is being tested in the Ukraine, this much is true; but i don't see its demise soon because its members (at present) benefit too much from it, to abandon it because it costs something.

NATO will expand if it is America's hegemony it replaces; so too with a mission more clearly defined, where even China's membership (like Russia's) meeting the criteria, would not be anathema.

...i am hopeful that the Problem is solved; such a notion when understood would bless us all.

...soon, i hope very soon, those of us not "Greek" or not "Turkish" will unite together, to demonstrate our existence under the Flag of Cyprus (the one "They" treat as a rag) in our streets and on our beaches.

Who but the Turkish Cypriots are ahead as the vanguard? If we are to end "Turkishness" we must join them.

...let's remember it is the other half as i like to call them, Turkish or Greek who have kept us united despite being torn unnaturally apart all these decades, as voters.

'We' are not few and insignificant.

Secular Turkish Cypriot community under threat

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/01/22/secular-turkish-cypriot-community-under-threat/

.

...i am so glad that the "Greeks" did not win their fight for Cyprus. One has just to look over the Green Line to see what "Turkishness" brings the people it claims to be protecting.

While the Republic that Cypriots have is far from perfect, in its dysfunction, intentions must change for its reform.

...if not in the Leaders, those of us not "Greek" and not "Turkish" will find representation as Cypriots in ourselves; to join together in our streets and on our beaches. And in demonstrating 'our' existence exposing what is an unnatural divide: giving enosis a Cypriot meaning, taking back the word that gave "Them" their power.

The "Turks" remain a scourge to 'us', (and to the People of Turkey, indeed to the whole world).

...at the vanguard are the Turkish Cypriots; winning needs Cypriots united.

Princess Anne at the Presidential Palace (Update)

 https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/01/11/princess-anne-at-the-presidential-palace/

.

...i can recount the very day that Grivas decided to fight against the British Army, an organisation he admired very much. If it were not for the superior officer who ignored his plaint of the unruly soldiers who put his life in danger, there would not have been an EOKA.

...as for EOKA B, their failure makes it very clear that there is/was a difference. But three days after their successful coup, without the support they expected from Greek Cypriots, even the Junta in Greece collapsed.

Cypriots in fact are neither "Turkish" or "Greek", while being Greek and Turkish they are the victim of such dogmatists who by their actions have usurped these People's Basic Human Rights by ignoring their identity as Individuals and by defining them strictly as Persons.

...EOKAB was something else, i dare say a corruption and of International proportions; a Hateful enterprise against the People of Cyprus, rather than their exploitation like mere chattel.

...if EOKAB was Cypriot, rather than ''Greek'', it would be remembered by Greeks, but they are not. And they were not when the coup failed after 3 days without Cypriot support.

...Turkey still suffers from the hateful dogma of ''Turks''. Like the ''Greeks'' i imagine their end will have its roots in Cyprus, too.

(i would have thought that by now i'd see Cypriots gathered together doing what they do best, making souvla on the beach, and under the flag "They" treat as a rag the Flag of Cyprus.)

If our Leadership continue to think of themselves as "Greeks" and "Turks", the people, those of us who seek representation as Cypriots, the other half (i like to say), will have to speak for themselves. 'We' as such, don't need our Leaders to speak for ourselves, or in wanting change to reject "their" narratives, to join under our common values seeking to defend these Universal Principles and our basic Human Rights. Such as it is, 'we' may take back our streets and our beaches, Cypriots, gathered peacefully to celebrate under the one flag, the Flag of Cyprus, (maybe because "they'' treat it as a rag, but) that is theirs. ...enosis; a Cypriot definition: it is what our "Leadership" must see to believe.

...indeed, among us Greek and Turkish, in Cyprus, live those who (as Persons) place a dogma like "Greekness" or "Turkishness" above the notions of a single Humanity where, as Individuals, without distinction or discrimination, we are prepared to defend the values it represents, each other, and our Basic Human Rights as such.

The Problem it seems has been forgotten long ago. And it is not isolated to be a Cyprus problem.

...indeed, it is not a problem between Greeks and Turks, nor is it a problem of "Turks" against "Greeks" (read: non-"Turks"), it is a problem of "Greeks" and "Turks" against Greeks and Turks. Turkey has the same Problem. And as it is evolving the Ukraine will suffer the Problem too.

A BBF (like the USA, which was the very first) is not hard to imagine in Turkey, the Ukraine, (in Russia), and in Cyprus and many other countries. States, based on Principles and the Rule of Law equally representing Citizens accordingly seems natural. Constituencies within these States where as Persons a Majority demonstrates its capacity to provide for Minorities living among them seems apt.

...indeed, Cypriots should be gathering under their flag, the Flag of Cyprus, the one "They" treat as a rag, on the beaches which "belong" to them, having picnics. Cypriots are not few. Let's not forget that despite the years we have been torn apart, "They" have never won an overwhelming majority at the polls. Enosis, the word that means to join together, needs a Cypriot definition.

...indeed Pyr, it is a turning point.

The Problem solved not just in the Ukraine, but in Turkey and Russia and Cyprus too.

...and an end to Turkey's dispute with Greece, which has been linked to the Problem, in Syria, Iraq and Iran, and also in Azerbaijan, for the same reason; all of this is possible if in turn he changes his intentions having isolated himself.

Indeed, he (Erdogan) has his Legacy to think of. What with the Centennial and elections looming at such a turning point, what will he do but turn on a dime; he has boarded the train called Democracy before.

...Putin too wants Fame, and right now in his infamy he faces a War Crimes Tribunal; a solution that is "perfect'' he could include in Russia's Constitutional reform which can be emulated, like a BBF: where as a State Citizens have the capacity to defend their Basic Human Rights as Individuals, and, where as these People as Persons demonstrate the same respect and trust for each other by recognising the special needs of minorities living among them.

NATO's mission will change with such a Peace, i surmise that Russia will become a member, China too some day, protecting the high seas, a task that the US does at the moment world-wide, but for its Maritime traffic as its mission.

...i have hope for Erdogan, because a small change in his intentions will mean fame for him (instead of infamy), and the adulation of all the world; ending the Problem in Cyprus and in Turkey, as well as Ukraine.

Indeed, he fights for "Turkishness" his dogma among dogmatists; but he is a man of God and as such he may have an epiphany in that he may better understand how one God (measured as a State and Nationhood) is served lovingly.

...call me a dreamer, but a BBF, having an identity as an Individual (what is Freedom), and having an identity as a Person (what is Liberty), is not so hard to understand; it is an issue of balance.

He may fight for Turkey instead, the People, not "his" people (the mythic Nation of Turan), but for all of us ''Turkish" or not; for our Basic Human Rights, more broadly for the respect and trust we have for each other beyond that.

..."shareholder", as in, one man one vote.

Cypriots, are neither "Greeks" or "Turks". They are Individuals, who as Persons Turkish and Greek see a value in their identity to this land.

Cypriots are not few, Olcay, nor are they insignificant; there has never been an election, over decades even unnaturally torn apart, where one of "Them" has won an overwhelming majority. This too should not be ignored.

...indeed, you just have to look around you, if you live in Cyprus; living in the occupied territories "Turkishness", like "Greekness" in the south, are a bane to our existence since its extremes have held the Agenda all these years.

...i suggest to you that the Problem is bigger than what is dividing us as Cypriots, that Turkey too is more divided than it has ever been for the same reason. (So too the Ukraine as it is evolving). And a BBF in all these cases has no better solution for their Constitutional reform: where we can be Free as Individuals to defend our Basic Human Rights, and where we have the Liberty as Persons to promote our distinct identities.

So it is with our wealth in Cyprus: the cost and the benefit, while it may be shared it "belongs" to Cypriots, and as Cypriots for them to choose.

...Cyprus along with all its neighbours, are clear; they have already agreed to boundaries that respect international law (ie. UNCLOS) and they have joined together forming the East Med. Gas Forum where an empty chair awaits Turkey (and Libya) should they change their minds.

The solution of the Cyprus problem is in our hands

More importantly, i suggest that when it comes to Constitutional Reform, what is (an International concern), the Problem, can be solved in Cyprus, and, it may serve Turkey's needs in Turkey with its minorities (emulated with that in mind). That is to say, that with good sense in uniting here, in Cyprus as Cypriots, it provides the impetus, in Turkey, but not just in Turkey, for Peoples everywhere similarly at odds (like Ukraine), to see despite their diversity and their distinctions as identities, as Individuals, (in a BBF like Canada or the United States for example), that there exist a set of Principles, where based on them they have a reason to defend each other as Citizens. That beyond their identity as a Person, (with this Liberty,) as Individuals, and as a State, they express this willingness to unite as/with Humans, for their Rights (and for their Freedom).

I do not despair.

...the protests do not seem to be growing, but they do not cease.

(Indeed, i talk of Grivas' brother who fought in EOKA against the British, and who withdrew once Cyprus was Free having ended the subjugation Cypriots were living under.)

The Problem is not about Greeks versus Turks, or "Greeks" vs "Turks". It is about "Greeks"/"Turks" vs Greeks/Turks. The same can be said in Turkey, and as it is evolving in the Ukraine, too.

...indeed the Turkish Cypriot is at the vanguard against the hateful dogma "Turkishness" has come to represent, and if 'we' hate such dogma we must fight along with them.

...what has AKEL done since they managed to get a Turkish Cypriot elected as an MEP? What has DISY done to open itself to an electorate, whether they can vote or not, which have to agree?

Indeed, such leadership shortsighted seeks power alone. And they may win it, divided as we are, to "be", "Greek" or "Turkish". Indeed, they fail us, the other half not "Greek" or "Turkish", representing Cypriots in this way.

Let us remember, despite this poor (read: corrupt) leadership, it is the People who have voted over decades, even unnaturally torn apart, to 'be' Cypriots; no candidate of "Theirs" has ever won an election overwhelmingly.

ENOSIS, these leaders, it seems, lack the courage as Patriots to take back the word by giving it a Cypriot meaning.

And who is it we fail but ourselves, silent choosing to live with "Greekness" and "Turkishness" instead.

...enosis, i call for it unafraid, as Cypriots to unite and to give it 'our' meaning.

...to take back our beaches, (and our city), simply by having our own picnics, together, peacefully.

...to take back our dignity by making the effort to seek each other out, patronising 'their' businesses, and by starving "Theirs'", to recognise that we are no different defined as Human beings and that it is our Basic Human Rights as such, which are threatened, and for which 'we' fight. This is the Problem, not a "Greek"/"Turk" problem per se, but a "Greek"-"Turk"/ Greek-Turk problem; and this is something to think about if in Turkey (and in the Ukraine) the same Problem is to turn around.

By ignoring Cypriots, Turkish or Greek, Mr. Tatar, let's remember, ignores about half the voting population of Cyprus, whether (for decades) artificially divided or not.

...with the liberty Mr. Tatar takes in Varosha it is only clear that he places "Turkishness" above our Basic Human Rights. In his world we are as Individuals second-class, not ''being'' one of them. It is something to think about.

Åžentop: “ UN member states should recognize the TRNC now”

 https://cyprusscene.com/2022/11/16/sentop-un-member-states-should-recognize-the-trnc-now/

...i am sorry nothing has changed. Cypriots, both Turkish and Greek, see through such lies, even having been divided unnaturally as they are for so many decades as though only "Greekness" and "Turkishness" are important, more important, as Individuals, they seek their Basic Human Rights.

Cyprus is for Cypriots. This is the Problem.

Mr. Tatar would do well to remember that at least half of his so called constituency are not the "Cypriot Turks" he would like them to be. He would do well also to consider what a BBF could do for Turkey too, in its Constitutional reform if it had a solution to emulate from Cyprus. (And in the Ukraine too, as things are developing.) It is his choice, to be a greater Statesman.
